Yes! 2009 is Mini 50th Anniversary! Mini was born in 1959 and this small car was produced by British Motor Corporation (BMC). It was designed by Sir Alec Issigonis. This year, Mini will have a great international meeting around the world for the very special 50th years anniversary, and I do believe this small car will rock the world for a long long time.

In 1994, BMW bought over Rover Group, the assets included the name of “Mini”, and also the legendary Mini car designed by Sir Alex Issigonis. Although Mini has already 35 years old, it was stil in production at Longbridge. Rover Group no longer believed in the Mini, but BMW most certainly did, and instructed that an all-new model be developed.

Malaysia is headed into the Guinness Book of World Records for cramming 21 people into a Mini Cooper. Students from Inti College Subang Jaya not only battled the rain in their bid to successfully fit 21 people for 20 seconds into a 1999 Mini Cooper, they also had to do it twice.

The Mini John Cooper Works ( Mini JCW ) engine is 1.6liter turbocharged engine gets boosted up to 211hp, with peak torque now at 260Nm (280Nm overboost) from as low as 1,850rpm. The MINI JCW is only available with a 6-speed manual, reflecting its more hardcore nature as compared to the Cooper S.
