The automobile history begins in 1600s and first ever made car is a steam-propelled car designed by Ferdinand Verbiest in 1672 in China. As the vehicle was only 65 cm long and it is not designed to carry human passengers, therefore some car enthusiasts did not strictly recognize Verbiest’s designed as a car. However, the definition of car is a vehicle with four wheels and can be propelled by any power, thus this vehicle is known as the Verbiest’s car as well as the first car ever made.

First steam-powered car

In 1769, almost a century after Verbiest’s designed, far away in France, a genius Nicholas-Joseph Cugnot invented steam-powered cars that able to carry human passengers. The steam-powered car was three wheel cars that achieved 2.5 mph. Cougnot has become the person who invented the first steam-powered car.

First electric car

During 1832 to 1839, Robert Anderson of Scotland invented the first crude electric carriage which uses primary power cells that are non-rechargeable. Few decades later in 1881, Gustave Trouvé from France invented the first car that powered by electricity and the car was demonstrated at an International Exhibition of Electricity in Paris. Both of their contributions have given us the chances to see a lot of electric cars running on the road today.

First gasoline-powered car

Here comes the interesting story of the first gasoline-powered cars as most of the cars in the market today are still powered by gasoline due to the performance. In 1806, Francois Isaac de Rivaz invented the first internal combustion engine but it was never commercialize. However, this had led to the first gasoline-powered car in 1885 by Karl Benz.

In 1885, Karl Benz designed and built the first gasoline-powered car and became the pioneer of the automobile industry until today’s well-known Mercedes-Benz. Karl unveiled his car in 1886 and granted a patent in 1886. In 1896, Karl invented the first ever car with an internal combustion flat engine. Today and in the future, Karl Benz’s Benz Motorwagen will be recognized as the first car ever made.
