Although you may not be big fans of Daewoo cars and the car brand doesn’t really famous, but we have to admit that there are something Daewoo is doing well in automobile industry.
Daewoo (GM Daewoo Auto and Technology Company) was founded in 1937 by Kim Woo-jung. Daewoo is the third largest automobile manufacturer in South Korea rank after Hyundai and Kia. Daewoo is also part of the GM Company, who manufactures a lot of famous car like Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac.
In early days, Daewoo started the business by rebuilding scrapped US military vehicles at South Korea. In early 1990s, Daewoo started to sell their vehicle worldwide and expand heavily throughout the world. In early 1995, we are able to see some Daewoo cars in Europe countries like the Daewoo Espero, Daewoo Cielo, Daewoo Lanos, Daewoo Nubira, and Daewoo Leganza.
The company keeps on expanding themselves with more well-known inexpensive cars. In 1998, the Daewoo Matiz mini car was introduced and it was one of the greatest success cars for Daewoo. The Matiz has won many awards especially in Italy.
In 1999, Daewoo Group went bankrupt with debts about $84.3 million USD and GM bought most of Daewoo Motor’s assets from GM Daewoo in 2001. However, the Daewoo brand was remain until 2004 and then rebadged.
Why buy Daewoo Cars?
- Inexpensive. Daewoo cars are well-known because of the reasonable price tag. It is inexpensive to purchase and it helps many family to own a car with lowest budget possible.
- Cheap to maintain. Many Daewoo parts and accessories are available at low price.

Before GM bought the company, Daewoo had built many economical and efficient cars include the Daewoo Rezzo (Tacuma), Daewoo Evanda (Magnus), Daewoo Kalos, Daewoo Leganza, Daewoo Nubira (Lacetti), and among others.
After GM’s buyout, many Daewoo cars have been rebadged like the Daewoo Lanos was rebadged to Chevrolet Aveo and Daewoo Winstorm rebadged to Chevrolet Captiva.
Daewoo’s competitors include Ford Cars, Daihatsu Cars, Isuzu Cars, Toyota Cars, Honda Cars and Tata Cars.
Today, a brand new GM Daewoo has given us a brand new image of Daewoo cars throughout the years. GM Daewoo, New Ways, Always!
