2012 Cadillac DTS is said to be replaced with codename XTS and make it 2012 Cadillac XTS? How true it is? Here we shared the news and information for 2012 Cadillac XTS which will replace the DTS model. The DTS was carmaker’s largest luxury cars for model year 2006 in the U.S market. The Cadillac quality issues in the 1980s obviously did not affect any future plan for Cadillac.

According to The National Post report, General Motors (GM) will replace the DTS to XTS. The XTS is all new large sedan luxury executive car that will compete with other bigger luxury cars from Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Lexus, Audi. The production is slated to begin in December 2011 at GM’s Oshawa plant in Ontario, Canada. It will be the automaker’s latest product plans. Does the X means “eXtra” large for this brand new GM’s car? The new Cadillac XTS will be the largest four-door full-size luxury sedan in the year 2012, but will it hit the other high-end maker like the BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz S Class, Audi, and Lexus?

2012 still some time to go, for year 2010, the STS and DTS is still a good choice. These cars price range for 2010 STS are from US$50,385 – US$70,335, while the price for 2010 DTS are around US$46,280. The DTS price range is from US$41,990 for the Luxury models to US$50,490. The car price in U.S. for a luxury car is much more cheaper compared to some high vehicle tax country in Asia especially Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan…etc.

During year 2008, Cadillac initial plan is to replace the luxury sedan car, the rear wheel drive STS (S-Series Touring Sedan) and the front wheel drive DTS (D-Series Touring Sedan) to one flagship, which is DT7. This project was on hold for a year in late summer. GM reported the reason is due to delayed funding to the program but the design work on this luxury sedan has been finished. Another reason is also due to the economy crisis on year 2008, lead to high retrenchment and people look for cars under 1000 dollars or even 500 dollars.

Different between CTS, STS and DTS model

DTS (D-Series Touring Sedan) is a full-size luxury sedan while CTS and STS both are mid-size luxury sports sedan and executive car. Well, a 2005 hand-craft DTS Limo was the Presidential State Car for the former President of the United States George W. Bush. And now, President Barack Obama’s car is named as “2009 Cadillac Presidential Limousine” which originally is the DTS model. Guess what? The Prime Minister of Canada also rides in a similar DTS. It started in 1949 with the name Cadillac DeVille. The DeVille was first introduce in 1949 and replaced with 2006 Cadillac DTS. There is total number of 10 generations from 1949 to 2005.

Before the production in Ontario really starts in December 2011, no one would ever know the look of 2012 Cadillac DTS.
